Young women pertaining to turn of the 20th century Latin American elite were expected to master and prolifically produce the fine craft of crochet knitting and lace making. This solitary, detailed labor speaks of a skill set no longer passed on nor required to showcase a proper upbringing.
The cyanotype print, John Herschel’s 1842 invention, has similarly all but disappeared. This series, An Archive of Solitude is inspired by Anna Atkins’s 1843 “British Algae: Cyanotype impressions”, considered the first photographically illustrated book.
The archive presents objects belonging to Soledad A. (1915-2010) and her mother Rosa P. (1882-1956) whose confection no longer resonates with our 21st century everyday pastimes. Using one of photography's earliest printing techniques the textile heirlooms take on new life, classified by size and year.

Esta labor solitaria y detallista nos habla de una habilidad hoy casi desaparecida, o al menos no requerida como prueba de "buena crianza".
